Why Mineral Horse Food? Horses need minerals too?

What about Horses?

There is a synergy between plants, animals & humans and it
all evolves around the minerals on our planet.

We all rely on minerals and without a sufficient quantity of the right minerals we can suffer. Horses need minerals too, they are creatures of the earth just like us!

CALCIUM & PHOSPHORUS:
Both are required for growth and repair of bones, cartilage, muscles and tendons, among others.

ZINC, COPPER & MANGANESE:
University studies indicate that growing horses need these on a daily basis. Approximately 80 ppm zinc, 60 ppm manganese and 30 ppm copper.

LIQUID TRACE MINERALS:
Liquid plant-derived minerals are much more available to the horse than those in the oxide form, as used in salt blocks. These blocks usually don't contain any calcium or phosphorus.

ORGANIC VERSUS INORGANIC:
Most minerals used in livestock feeding are inorganic substances which are not very palatable to animals. ACTIVE Liquid Minerals are plant-derived and NOT in the carbonate or sulfate form. They are also completely free of inorganic additives.

Consider this experiment of Neathery et. al. (1972)
at the university of Georgia.

"These workers grew corn supplemented with "radiolabeled" zinc, and in this manner obtained intrinsically labeled corn.

When this corn was fed to animals, it was possible to measure zinc uptake by tissues and vital organs.

As a control. an identical dose of "radiolabeled" zinc was fed as an inorganic mineral supplement.

The zinc from the corn plant grown with "radiolabeled" zinc was 40% more effective than the inorganic supplement at increasing tissue levels."

Neathery,MW; Rachmat,S; Miller, WJ; Gentry,RP; Blackrnon,DM (1972):
Effect of chemical form of orally administered Zn-65 on absorbtion and metabolism in cattle. Proceedings of the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine 139, 956-956

ELECTROLYTES:
During exercise, the concentration of electrolytes in the sweat can change due to the ambient temperature as well as the type and duration. The more a horse sweats, the more it needs supplementation. Horse sweat has a higher concentration of electrolytes in it than blood, therefore it is important that the lost minerals be replaced.

Thomas Jefferson Clark used the minerals on the horses and the mules he used to sell to the army. He was also a horse trainer with the legendary Seabiscuit.

It was his idea to wrap Seabiscuits legs in wrappings and use his minerals as a compress? The rest is history!

The suggested "maintenance" dose is as follows:

Healthy Horse: Every week, add 2 ozs to 1 quart of oats.
Sick Horse: Every day, add 1 oz to 1 quart of oats.

NOTE: If you haven't seen the "Seabiscuit" movie then I recommend you see it. Here's a link to find out more about the movie:
